Masters Program of Advanced Buddhist Studies of Sutra and Tantra

MP logoThe Masters Program of Advanced Buddhist Studies of Sutra and Tantra provides an opportunity to engage in an indepth study of three important treatises from the sutra tradition:

  • Ornament for Clear Realization (Abhisamayalamkara) by Maitreya
  • Supplement to the Middle Way (Madhyamakavatara) by Chandrakirti
  • Treasury of Manifest Knowledge (Abhidharmakosha) by Vasubandhu

and to receive extensive teachings on tantra:

  • Grounds and Paths of Secret Mantra 
  • Guhyasamaja Tantra.

This seven-year program consists of four years of study of the three great treatises followed by two years of tantric studies. It concludes with a one-year solitary retreat.

ONSITE AND ONLINE PROGRAMS

Both the onsite and online programs are taught by Tibetan teachers expert in both sutra and tantra, supported by a staff of Western tutors and translators, most of whom are themselves graduates of the Masters Program.

The full-time onsite Masters Program consists in teachings Monday to Friday, complemented by daily review classes and weekly meditation sessions. Graduates of the onsite program qualify for the FPMT Masters Program Completion Certificate.

The Masters Program is also available as an online course with weekly teachings, review classes and meditations. Graduates of the online program qualify for the FPMT Masters Program Home Study Completion Certificate.

APPLICATIONS

In addition, to joining the program for the entire seven years, it is also possible to enrol in either the onsite or online programs for the study of one or more individual modules. Onsite and online students who successfully complete all the components of a module can respectively qualify for the FPMT Masters Program Completion Card or FPMT Masters Program Home Study Completion Certificate in that particular subject.

Applications for the tantric subjects of the Masters Program 2008-2013 are now open.
The study of the Grounds and Paths of Secret Mantra begins May 8th, 2012.

The next cycle of the program is scheduled to begin January 2014.
