Dr. Bill Magee is Professor of Tibetan at Dharma Drum Buddhist College in Taiwan. Bill studied with Jeffery Hopkins at the University of Virginia, where he obtained his doctoral degree in Buddhist Studies. He then taught at the University of Virginia’s prestigious Summer Tibetan Language Institute for thirteen years. Bill is the author of Paths to Omniscience: the Geluk Hermeneutics of Nga-wang-bel-den, (Dharma Drum Publications, 2010). and The Nature of Things: Emptiness and Essence in the Geluk World (Ithaca: Snow Lion Publications, 2000), as well as numerous articles about Tibetan Buddhism. He is co-author together with Elizabeth Napper of Fluent Tibetan: a Proficiency-Oriented Learning System and is also the author of Tibetan Oral Proficiency Exam and its language proficiency guidelines. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Chung-Hwa Buddhist Journal and, with Jeffrey Hopkins, administers two on-line Tibetan archives: the Hopkins Tibetan Treasures Multimedia Research Archive (http://haa.ddbc.edu.tw) and the Uma Institute (http://uma-tibet.org).
